How UK Songwriters Can Claim a 'Per Diem' Expense From Universal Music Group UK

What we've announced:

  • In the Summer of 2025, we announced that UK songwriters will be able to claim a £75 'per diem'
  • UK Songwriters can claim the per diem for every calendar day where they attend a writing session in the UK - regardless of how long the writing session lasts on any given day
  • This applies to all Universal Music Group UK labels

Who is eligible to claim this per diem:

  • All UK songwriters who have attended a writing session organised in the UK by or on behalf of a Universal Music Group UK label can claim this per diem - irrespective of whether the work from the session is ultimately used on a recorded track

How to claim:

  • After the session, songwriters should contact the label A&R Manager who organised the session to obtain email confirmation of their attendance at the session stating:
    • Full Name
    • Session date(s)
    • Session location
    • UMG label who coordinated the session
    • The name of the artist whose session they attended

  • Songwriters should request the name of the A&R Admin Manager who will approve the expense
  • Per diem expenses should then be submitted via Uniport (the Universal Music Group online payment portal)
  • Songwriters who already have a Uniport account should raise a PO request with the A&R Admin Manager as approver
  • Any songwriter who does not yet have a Uniport account can register here
  • The A&R Manager who organised their session will be able to provide support if needed and answer any questions
